TMF 2026: Anton Mejias
Anton Mejias, an exceptional pianist of the younger generation, will perform Johann Sebastian Bach’s 6 French Suites in his recital – a program that represents a milestone both technically and musically. The evening combines rare maturity, a luminous interpretation, and a deep connection to Bach’s music.
Born in 2001, the Finnish-Cuban Anton Mejias has quickly risen to international prominence as an exceptional interpreter of Bach. Having memorized Bach’s Das Wohltemperierte Klavier at an early age, the pianist has a broad command of the composer’s core keyboard repertoire: the French and English suites, the partitas, and both books of Das Wohltemperierte Klavier. The six French suites featured in this recital form an elegant and multifaceted whole, in which dance-like qualities, ornamentation, and structural clarity alternate with refined artistry.
Mejias’s playing combines crystalline clarity with vivid expression, making Bach’s music immediate and timeless. In his hands, the French suites unfold as a colorful interpretation, in which each dance takes on its own character, ranging from light elegance to profound contemplation. The atmosphere is intimate and focused, like a quiet dialogue between the composer and the listener.
This recital offers a rare opportunity to hear Bach’s six French suites as a single cohesive whole, interpreted by a young virtuoso pianist. Anton Mejias’s strong connection to this music makes the evening exceptional: in addition to being a single performance, the concert is part of a story of deep immersion in one of the most significant bodies of Western music.
