TMF 2026: The Rector's Home Concert
At the Turku Music Festival, Yo soy María takes the audience to the very heart of tango and tango nuevo – from the dimly lit nights of Buenos Aires to the inner landscapes of the human mind, where passion, love, and melancholy intertwine. The evening features some of the most beloved tangos and songs, including Por una cabeza, Volver, and Alfonsina y el mar, as well as richly expressive works by Astor Piazzolla, such as Oblivion, Adiós Nonino, and Libertango – all in fresh and nuanced arrangements by Henrik Sandås.
The concert features the expressive and charismatic Maria Lund as soloist, whose interpretations combine sensitivity with a strong stage presence. Also appearing on stage are the internationally acclaimed show tango dancers Toni and Helime Ruotsalainen, bringing a powerful visual dimension to the music. The performance is completed by Henrik Sandås Quintet, whose refined and intense sound is inspired by Piazzolla’s iconic ensemble format.
At the Turku Music Festival, the concert will be performed in the Sigyn Hall as a home concert hosted by the Rector of Turku University of Applied Sciences, Vesa Taatila. The evening takes the audience into the intimate and narrative world of tango, where music, movement, and interpretation merge into an experience shaped by passion and melancholy.
